There can be many reasons why a doctor or dentist may be performing below their potential. When a practitioner self-refers or is referred to the CDU, the CDU will allocate a coach/mentor to the individual. The CDU coach/mentor will work with the doctor or dentist to:

• establish what the difficulties are and what may be contributing

• develop a performance improvement plan

• ensure regular reviews of progress.

• Where a trainee has been referred to the CDU, the CDU coach/mentor will sometimes meet with the trainee and their supervisors to ensure that the trainee is being given all the support they need  to get back on track.

  CDU support is free to trainees in Oxford Deanery.  Established doctors and dentists will be charged for CDU help.
