Coaching for established doctors and dentists
Overview
Established doctors and dentists may be referred to the CDU by their employer, usually an Acute Trust or PCT.
Employers have a responsibility for governance and may need to support
the development of a doctor or dentist. This includes PCT's, which are
responsible for GP's on their Performers List.
Referral to the CDU may take place after local investigation about
performance concerns or after referral to National Clinical Assessment
Service (NCAS) or the General Medical Council (GMC)/General Dental
Council (GDC), when clear areas of professional development have been
identified.
Occasionally employers refer doctors and dentists to the CDU to help
them re-establish their career after a period of ill-health.
The CDU is only funded for trainees, so there will be some costs for either the employer or the individual.
