Personal career guidance

Doctors and dentists who need more expert career help than is available using standard career advice can apply for personal career guidance if they live or work in the Oxford Deanery.

Guidance is available for doctors and dentists in training as well as established consultants, GPs, dental practitioners and doctors in non-training grades.

Doctors and dentists can also apply to the CDU for help with performance issues.

Types of career help available

  • Trainees may have a dilemma if, having obtained standard career advice, they either remain uncertain about which specialty to choose or are having difficulty changing their career direction.
  • Some doctors or dentists need help in re-establishing themselves after a career break and may need refresher training
  • Established doctors and dentists may have a dilemma when there is persistent poor job satisfaction or a wish to change a job, specialty or even career. Occasionally doctors and dentists have to make difficult adjustments to their career because of personal circumstances or the development of health or disability problems.

PASS scheme

Dentists may wish to use this alternative advice service, which is for dentists only.
