Dr Chris Smith
|I graduated in 1984 (Bristol University) and embarked on a career in primary care, joining a long-established training practice in 1990. As I progressed in this I became increasingly aware of a love for education coupled with a deeply held personal commitment to the empowerment of others; both for my patients and my colleagues.
Alongside my clinical work, I have been able to express these values through GP education, appraisal and the PSU. I was an early enthusiast for appraisal, being in the vanguard of GP appraisers.
Within Oxford Deanery I was a GP trainer for 10 years and later held the post of Associate GP Dean for Buckinghamshire.I am the course director for the Oxford Deanerys Advanced Consultation Skills Course.
I have been with the PSU since its inception (as the CDU) in 2005. From 2010, time constraints and a necessary hard look at my own health needs and work life balance have taken me to now primarily focus on my role within the PSU; from where I consider it a great privilege to work with my colleagues.
