Dr. John Derry
I graduated in 1979 (Oxford), planning a career in surgery. Experience of house jobs changed that and I joined the Oxford GP training scheme. From 1985-2002 I was a GP in Witney, initially full-time, then part-time as non-clinical interests developed.
Since 1999 I have been a primary care medical adviser, initially at Oxfordshire Health Authority and latterly at the Strategic Health Authority. This has involved advising PCTs on managing GP performance issues and requires good knowledge of all the rules and regulations around GP services. I'm now studying for an MA in Coaching and Mentoring Practice and do a lot of teaching nationally on aspects of managing change and quality improvement.
I'm committed to lifelong learning and personal development, and want to use my own experience of an emerging portfolio medical and non-medical career to help others with their career development.
