Dr. Nanas Callander
After graduating from Glasgow University I trained in general practice. Early experience as the sole woman doctor in an otherwise male partnership opened my eyes and ears to the extent of the problems experienced by my patients, in their intimate and interpersonal relationships. I developed a strong interest in sexual and reproductive health care, eventually becoming a consultant.
I was Deanery Adviser for the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare for Oxford Deanery for three terms, and Training Programme Director for East Berkshire. Recognising the importance to primary care clinicians of having skills in sexual and reproductive health, I established a specialist training placement for GP registrars as part of the Oxford Deanery training scheme. In 2007 I completed training as an NLP Master Practitioner. This is a key leadership development programme based on modelling human excellence. As we learn to be flexible in our thinking and behaviour we gain wisdom by seeing things from many perspectives. This gives us choice and confidence as we manage ourselves and interact with others. I bring the experience and training that has supported my growth and offer it to the Career Development Unit. As I coach and mentor colleagues my aim is to empower them in their sense of self and in working to achieve their goals.
