Dr Helen Allott

I have been a Consultant Obstetrician at the Royal Berkshire Hospital since 1994. I am also a Clinical Tutor and Foundation Training Programme Director for the hospital and have particular responsibility for supporting doctors in difficulty. My special interest is supporting bereaved parents - I run our bereavement follow-up clinic and also a service for mothers who have found their birth experiences traumatic, regardless of the outcome.

I am the Founding Chairperson of Worth Africa, (Working together for health in Africa), a charity helping to address the problems with recruitment and retention of trained staff in remote rural hospitals in Africa. I make regular visits to Uganda and have also worked elsewhere in Africa with the RCOG, helping to facilitate training courses aimed at the reduction of maternal mortality, a subject which I am absolutely passionate about.

Besides this, I am a mother of three, although my youngest daughter is now in her final year at school.
